Come, Come, Ye Saints

Verse 1

Come, come, ye Saints,

  • Keep moving forward, Come unto Him - do what you need to do.

No toil nor labor fear;

  • Do not be afraid of toil nor labor…. trials, or troubles, or afflictions. If we Come unto Christ there is nothing to fear.

But with joy wend your way.

  • Our way is supposed to be joyful, as long as we trust in God and do not fear what’s ahead.

Though hard to you this journey may appear, Grace shall be as your day.

  • The journey and path look and seem hard at many times in our life, but it only appears that way, God has a greater plan and a happy plan for us all.

'Tis better far for us to strive,

  • It is important to strive (desire) and work for these things.

Our useless cares from us to drive;

  • Set aside and drive away your useless cares, they are useless and will benefit you nothing. Don’t let small things, things of little importance get in your way - we need to strive to set and drive away our useless cares or worries (no toil nor labor fear).

Do this, and joy your hearts will swell—

  • If we do all these things, Come unto Christ, do not fear, trust in Him, try and lead our lives in a happy manner, realize the journey only appears hard, but in the long run we shall find and receive Grace. Strive to drive away useless cares and desires for these things.Then our hearts will swell (be overcome) with Joy.

All is well! All is well!

All is well, right now, keep doing these things, All is well.

Verse 2

Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard?
'Tis not so; all is right.

  • Why cry or mourn and think things are so hard and painful? We don’t need to, it’s not true, if we are in God’s Hands, all is right and okay.

Why should we think to earn a great reward
If we now shun the fight?

  • How or why can we think that we will earn a great reward and receive blessings (or the Celestial Kingdom) if we give up now in the middle of the fight or struggle? If we shun and ignore the fight for good around us and give up, we will not receive a great reward. Don’t ever give up.

Gird up your loins; fresh courage take.

  • Be strong, gird up your loins, remember God is on your side, take courage (like all the prophets and saints before us) take fresh courage.

Our God will never us forsake;

  • God will never forsake us, no matter how hard the journey appears, we are never alone in the things we are battling or going through.

And soon we'll have this tale to tell—

  • Very soon these trials and things shall pass, and it will just be a tale of our lives to tell.

All is well! All is well!

  • Do all these things, don’t shun the fight, God will never forsake us, All is Well, All is Well.
