Thoughts on Change
Sandy Folkman-
It is hard to believe that it has been 4 months since Brooke left us to return to heaven. I have been missing her a lot today and reading her writings and looking through treasured photos of our many adventures together. I am so thankful for the gift of being privileged to be Brookie's mother! I will miss her until she is in my arms again!
I wanted to share another inspirational writing by Brooke.

CHANGE
There comes a time in life when you need to stop and think about the choices you’re making, their consequences and their affect on your future. There comes a time when you need to realize that you’re not making all the right choices, and that some of the choices you are making will lead you down the wrong path and have negative impacts on your future. Then, there comes a time for courage, and for change.
Change is defined as “The act of instance of making or becoming different.” We are all human, and we all have things we do that are harmful to us either physically, spiritually or both…and there comes a time in life when we will no longer feel the desire to do these things. There will come a time in life when we realize that we are prisoners of our own thoughts and actions, and that only we ourselves have the key to escape. There will come a time in life where we will yearn for this freedom. This time in life is the time when the seed of desire to change is planted within us. Yet, often we don’t have the courage for this change, or to take the time and effort to do it; so slowly but surely, the seed of change will die from neglect and we will continue to live our lives behind bars. To truly enable this change to take place within us, we need to devote our time and energy to changing and work hard. We need to nourish the seed of change until it is planted deeply and firmly within ourselves, and through this nourishing process, the changes we seek will occur.
“Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else.” - Les Brown
One of the most important keys to success is having the discipline to do what you know you should do, even when you don’t feel like doing it.
Quote Brooke wrote at the front of her journal:
“Don’t be afraid to stand up for what you believe in, even if it means standing alone.”
Brooke possessed "the courage to change" and "the desire to change". She was working towards developing "the keys to escape" and obtain the "freedom" she so deeply desired with all her heart and soul....each and every day. We watched our beautiful, talented daughter wage a battle against the devastating effects of abuse, mental illness and the temporary numbing relief of addiction for years. It was a daily battle that took an incredible amount of Courage! As a family we commend Brooke for the Courage and Desire for Change she possessed. Truly she has won the battle at last! Safe in the arms of our merciful Savior! I love you Brookie!
